Our Past
Our past reflects a deliberate evolution toward disciplined, evidence-based Value Realization Management.
Since our founding, we have consistently focused on improving how organizations translate investment into defensible outcomes.
Founded in 2007, Alescent began as an advisory services partner delivering economic modeling, management decision support, and value realization solutions. From the outset, our work addressed a recurring executive concern: the absence of rigorous, decision-grade insight linking investment decisions to realized value. This early focus established the foundation for what would later formalize as Value Realization Management.
As demand for economically grounded advisory increased, we became a trusted delivery partner to leading global firms including McKinsey & Company, EY, Deloitte, and PwC. Through these partnerships, we supported complex, high-stakes decisions where traditional analytics and reporting proved insufficient to explain or defend outcomes.
In 2015, we formalized a Technology Business Management practice, extending our Value Realization Framework into large-scale information technology environments. In partnership with Apptio and Microsoft, we focused on economic optimization across IT portfolios, introducing greater transparency into cost, consumption, capacity, and investment trade-offs within complex technology estates.
In 2020, we expanded this capability to include Cloud FinOps, partnering with the FinOps Foundation and working with platform and ecosystem partners such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Cloudability, Cloudwiry, and Zesty. This expansion reflected the growing need for continuous economic governance as organizations adopted elastic, consumption-based operating models.
Today, our past informs a mature, integrated approach to value realization. We combine proven economic frameworks with modern platform capabilities, including Microsoft, AWS, HPE, Anaplan, Apptio, and Cloudability, and collaborate with organizations such as the TBM Council and the FinOps Foundation. This progression enables us to accelerate not only economic value realization, but also strategic, social, and ecological value, with rigor shaped by nearly two decades of applied experience.
